Questions & Answers about Juin et juillet sont des mois chauds.
Why aren't juin and juillet capitalized?
In French, the names of months and days of the week are not capitalized unless they appear at the very beginning of a sentence. SinceJuin is the first word, it gets a capital letter, but juillet stays lowercase.
Why is there a des before mois? In English we just say "are hot months."
In French, you almost always need an articlebefore a noun, even in the plural. des is the plural of un or une. While in English we leave the article out and just say "hot months," in French you must use the plural article and say des mois chauds.
Does the word mois (month) change in the plural?
No, it stays exactly the same! Because the singular word un mois already ends in an -s, you don't add another one to make it plural. You can tell it is plural here because of the words around it, like the verbsont (are) and the plural articledes.
Why is chauds placed after mois, and why does it have an -s?
In French, most descriptive adjectives like chaud (hot) go after the noun they describe. It has an -s at the end because adjectives must match the noun they describe, and mois is plural.
