Why does rejette have two Ts?
The infinitive verb is rejeter (to reject). It follows the same pattern as jeter (to throw). For most forms in the present tense, including the il/elle form used here for le chef, the t doubles to tt. This doubling changes the sound of the e just before it.
Are there present tense forms of rejeter that only have one T?
Yes! The nous and vous forms keep the single T, so you write nous rejetons and vous rejetez. The consonant only doubles when that part of the word is stressed when speaking, which happens in all forms except nous and vous.
Doesn't chef mean a cook?
It can, but in everyday French, un chef broadly means a boss, manager, or leader in any workplace. A kitchen chef is technically a chef de cuisine, though they are often just called chef at work too.
Why use notre here instead of nos?
You use notre (our) because there is only one project (projet is singular). If the boss were rejecting multiple projects, you would use nos to say nos projets.
