Why is it spelled célèbrent with an è (grave accent) instead of an é (acute accent)?
The verb is célébrer (to celebrate). It belongs to a group of stem-changing verbs where the second-to-last é changes to è for the subjects je, tu, il/elle/on, and ils/elles. We do this so the vowel sounds right when the word's ending is silent. For nous and vous, it stays an é (like nous célébrons).
Do I pronounce the -ent at the end of célèbrent?
