Prendre (to take) is an irregular verb. While the singular forms (I, you, he/she) keep the d from the dictionary form, the plural forms (we, you all, they) drop it. That is why it becomes nous prenons.

Why is pour used before rentrer?

In French, you use pour (for) followed by the infinitive form of a verb to mean "in order to" do something. So pour rentrer translates to "in order to go home" or just "to go home".

Does rentrer mean "to go home" all by itself?

Yes! While it literally translates to "to go back" or "to re-enter", rentrer is the most natural and common way to say "to go home" in French. You usually do not even need to add à la maison (to the house).
