Why is it de forêt instead of une forêt?
This is the rule for negating il y a (there is / there are). In a positive sentence, you would say Il y a une forêt (There is a forest). But when you make it negative, indefinite articles like un, une, and des change to de. So, "There is no forest" becomes Il n'y a pas de forêt. Why is the n' attached to the y?
