Questions & Answers about Uusi mallisto on valitettavasti suunniteltu vain nuorille.
Where else could the adverb valitettavasti be placed in this sentence?
Sentence-modifying adverbs of attitude like valitettavasti (unfortunately) are usually placed right after the finite verb (on) in a compound tense. You could also put it at the very beginning for emphasis (Valitettavasti uusi mallisto on...), but placing it between the auxiliary and the participle is the most neutral and common position.
Why is nuorille in the allative (-lle) case instead of using a postposition for "for"?
In English, we design something "for" someone, but in Finnish, the verb suunnitella (to design) often takes the allative case for the target audience. You can think of the -lle suffix as directing the design "at" or "to" the young people, so no separate postposition like varten is strictly needed here.
What tense is on suunniteltu here?
It is the passive present perfect, formed with the active 3rd-person singular verb on and the passive past participle suunniteltu. It translates as "has been designed", but remember that the Finnish passive always implies that an unspecified human or group of people did the designing.
Why is vain placed right before nuorille rather than earlier in the sentence?
