Questions & Answers about Minua väsyttää, kun koomikko ei ole hauska.
How does the causative suffix work in the verb väsyttää?
The base verb is väsyä (to get tired). By adding the causative suffix -ttää, the meaning shifts to "to cause to get tired" or "to make tired". So, väsyttää literally means "to tire (someone) out".
Why is the pronoun "I" in the partitive case (Minua) instead of the nominative (Minä)?
In Finnish, verbs expressing physical or emotional feelings (like väsyttää) often put the person experiencing the feeling in the partitive case. The verb itself stays in the third-person singular. Literally, the sentence is structured as "It tires me", which makes minua the object receiving the action.
If Minua väsyttää translates to "It tires me", is this the normal way to say "I am tired" in Finnish?
Yes! While you could use the adjective form and say Olen väsynyt (I am tired), using the causative verb structure Minua väsyttää (I feel tired) is incredibly common and natural in everyday Finnish.
Does the word kun mean "when" or "because" in this sentence?
It can mean both! Kun often translates to "when", but it is also frequently used to mean "since" or "because". In this context, both interpretations work perfectly because the comedian not being funny is the direct reason for the tiredness.
