Questions & Answers about Kun luemme palautteen tarkemmin, arvioimme tulosta paremmin.
How is the comparative adverb tarkemmin formed?
To make a comparative adverb, we usually take the comparative adjective and replace the -mpi ending with -mmin. The adjective for careful is tarkka and its comparative is tarkempi (more careful). By replacing the ending, we get the adverb tarkemmin (more carefully).
Why doesn't paremmin look anything like the normal Finnish word for well?
Just like in English, this word is irregular! The basic Finnish adverb for well is hyvin. But its comparative form (better) is paremmin, which is built from the comparative adjective parempi (better).
Why is the object palautteen in the genitive case, but tulosta is in the partitive case?
This happens because of the different verbs. Lukea (to read) takes a total object ending in -n here because the action is seen as complete: reading all of the specific feedback. However, arvioida (to evaluate) is a partitive verb because evaluating is considered an ongoing, continuous process, so its object tulos becomes tulosta.
What is the dictionary form of palautteen?
The base form is palaute (feedback). When a Finnish word ends in -e, you must add an extra -e- to the stem before attaching the -n for the genitive case, which gives us palautteen.
