Comparative Adverbs (-mmin)
To describe how an action is performed relative to something else (e.g., faster, more carefully), use the comparative form of an adverb. In Finnish, form this by replacing the -mpi of the comparative adjective with -mmin.
- nopeampi (faster) -> nopeammin (faster, as an adverb)
- tarkempi (more careful) -> tarkemmin (more carefully)
| The supervisor reads the report more carefully today. | Esimies lukee raportin tänään tarkemmin. |
| Because the student speaks fluently, he progresses faster. | Koska opiskelija puhuu sujuvasti, hän edistyy nopeammin. |
Evaluating Productivity
Comparative adverbs are useful when discussing workflow, skill improvement, and evaluating methods (menetelmä).

Irregular Comparative Adverbs
Some common Finnish adverbs have irregular comparative forms:
- hyvin (well) -> paremmin (better)
- kauan (for a long time) -> kauemmin (longer)
- myöhään (late) -> myöhemmin (later)
