From Lesson 482:Those who (kasâni ke)·Farsi

Questions & Answers about تیم ما در کمپین جدید، روی کسانی تمرکز می‌کند که میانسال هستند.

Why use kasâni ke for "those who" instead of just ânhâ ke?
The word kasâni is built from kas (person) + the human plural suffix -ân + the restrictive suffix -i (which signals that a relative clause is coming). Together with ke, kasâni ke specifically means "those people who" or "anyone who." This is the most natural and standard way in Farsi to refer to a generic group of people defined by a relative clause.
Why is the relative clause ke miyânsâl hastand separated from kasâni by the main verb?
When a relative clause modifies an object in Farsi, it is very common to push it to the end of the sentence, after the main verb (tamarkoz mi-konad). You could place it right after the noun (ru-ye kasâni ke miyânsâl hastand tamarkoz mi-konad), but moving it to the end prevents the main verb from being delayed and makes the sentence flow much more naturally.
Why do we have ru-ye before kasâni?
It is required by the compound verb tamarkoz kardan (to focus). Just like in English where you "focus on" something, in Farsi you focus bar or ru-ye (on) something. The preposition must be placed right before the object it affects (kasâni), even though the verb is at the end of the clause.
Since tim (team) involves multiple people, why is the verb tamarkoz mi-konad singular?
In Farsi, collective nouns like tim (team), khânevâdeh (family), or dolat (government) take a singular verb when they are acting as a single unit. You would only use a plural verb if you wanted to emphasize the individual members acting independently.
How is the adjective miyânsâl (middle-aged) formed?
It is a simple compound word made of miyân (middle) and sâl (year or age). Unlike English, Farsi doesn't need an extra suffix (like the "-ed" in middle-aged) to turn this combination into an adjective; combining the nouns directly is sufficient.
