Questions & Answers about آیا اهمیت شفافیت را در کسب و کار میدانید؟
Both اهمیت and شفافیت end in "-iyyat". How does this suffix work to create these words?
The "-iyyat" suffix comes from Arabic and is used in Farsi to create formal abstract nouns from adjectives or other nouns. For example, شفاف (shafaf - clear/transparent) becomes شفافیت (shafafiyyat - transparency). اهمیت (ahammiyyat - importance) is built from the Arabic comparative اهم (ahamm - more important), which shares a root with مهم (mohem - important).
Why does the object marker را come after شفافیت instead of right after اهمیت?
The direct object of the verb is the entire noun phrase "the importance of transparency" (اهمیت شفافیت). Because these two words are linked together by an ezafe (the invisible 'e' sound meaning 'of'), the specific object marker را must follow the complete chain, not just the head noun.
کسب و کار means "business," but what are the individual words doing here?
This is a compound noun where کسب (kasb) means "acquiring" or "earning," and کار (kar) means "work." Put together as "earning and work," they form the standard Farsi term for "business" or "trade."
Do I need to heavily stress the double 'y' sound in words ending with -یت?
In very formal speech or news broadcasts, you will hear a clear, double 'y' sound (ahammiyyat, shafafiyyat). However, in everyday spoken Farsi, this double consonant is usually softened, so it sounds more like a single 'y' (ahammiyat).
