Questions & Answers about ما هم سیب داریم.
Why does هم come right after ما instead of at the end of the sentence?
In Farsi, هم (too/also) usually comes immediately after the word it emphasizes. Here, putting it after ما (we) emphasizes that we also have apples (just like someone else does). If you wanted to say 'We have apples too' (in addition to having oranges), you would put it after the word for apple: ما سیب هم داریم.
Why is سیب translated as 'apples' (plural) when it does not have a plural ending?
In Farsi, when you are talking about a general category of things rather than specific, countable items, you normally leave the noun in its singular form. Because we are talking about apples in general, سیب does not need a plural marker here.
Since داریم already means 'we have', do we really need the word ما at the beginning?
You do not strictly need it for the verb! The ending of داریم already tells us the subject is 'we'. However, because we want to say 'We also...', we need to include ما so that هم has a specific word to attach to and emphasize.
