From Lesson 296:Clause chaining·Farsi

Questions & Answers about دانشجو فرم‌ها را تکمیل کرده، به کنسولگری رفت.

Why do we use تکمیل کرده instead of تکمیل کرد و?
This is the clause chaining technique you are currently learning. Instead of conjugating both verbs and joining them with the word "and" (و), Farsi often uses the past participle (here, تکمیل کرده) for the first action and only conjugates the final verb (رفت). This makes the sentence flow more smoothly and sounds more natural.
Since تکمیل کرده is a past participle, how do we know the tense and who is doing the action?
In chained clauses, the first verb relies entirely on the final verb to show the tense and the subject. Here, the final verb رفت (went) is in the simple past for a third-person singular subject. Therefore, we automatically know the first action (تکمیل کرده) was also done by the student in the past.
Why is را needed after فرم‌ها here?
The word را marks a specific direct object. Because the sentence says "the forms" rather than just "some forms" or "forms" in general, we need را to show that فرم‌ها is the specific thing being completed by the student.
How is the word کنسولگری built?
It is made by combining the loanword کنسول (consul) with the suffix گری (-gari), which often denotes a profession, a state of being, or the location of an office. Together, کنسولگری refers to the office of the consul, meaning the consulate.
