Questions & Answers about لطفاً ارتفاع را دقیقاً محاسبه کن!
Why do the words lotfân (please) and daghighân (exactly) both end with an alef and two little slanted lines?
That symbol is called a tanvin. It is borrowed from Arabic and is placed at the end of a noun or adjective to turn it into an adverb. In Farsi, it is pronounced as an "-an" sound. So the adjective daghigh (exact) becomes the adverb daghighân (exactly).
Why do we need the word râ after ertefâ' (height)?
The word râ is the definite direct object marker. Because the sentence asks to calculate "the" height (a specific height known to the speaker and listener), we must add râ right after it to show it is the direct target of the action.
Why is the verb split into two words, mohâsebe and kon?
This is a compound verb, which is the most common type of verb in Farsi. It is made of the noun mohâsebe (calculation) and the helper verb kardan (to do). Here, kardan is conjugated into its informal command form kon, literally meaning "do a calculation!"
Why doesn't the command kon start with the imperative prefix be-?
While simple verbs usually get a be- prefix for commands (like bekhar for "buy!"), compound verbs made with kardan (to do) almost always drop the be- prefix. So, instead of mohâsebe bekon, it is simply mohâsebe kon.
