Questions & Answers about آنها روی فایل کلیک کردند، اینطور نیست؟
Why does the Farsi sentence use اینطور نیست instead of a negative form of the verb to click to mean didn't they?
In English, question tags match the main verb and pronoun. Farsi makes this much easier! You can simply add a fixed tag like اینطور نیست (which literally means is it not this way?) to the end of any declarative sentence to ask for confirmation.
The lesson also mentions مگر نه. Could I use that here instead of اینطور نیست?
Yes, you can! You could say آنها روی فایل کلیک کردند، مگر نه؟ and it would mean the exact same thing. اینطور نیست is slightly more formal and often used in writing, while مگر نه is very common in casual everyday conversation.
Why do we need the word روی before فایل?
In Farsi, the compound verb کلیک کردن requires a preposition to show what is being clicked, just like in English when we say clicked on. The word روی means on. Because we use a preposition here, we do not need the direct object marker را after the word فایل.
Are فایل and کلیک just English loanwords?
Exactly! Farsi has borrowed many technology terms directly from English. فایل is pronounced just like file, and کلیک کردن pairs the English word click with the common Farsi helper verb کردن (to do) to create a new compound verb.
