Questions & Answers about آیا شما قصد دارید که به آن جزیره بروید؟
Why do we use the verb form beravid instead of the regular present tense miravid?
Because it follows qasd dârid (you intend). When you express an intention or decision, the action hasn't happened yet, so Farsi requires the present subjunctive form for the second verb. We make this by replacing the regular mi- prefix with the subjunctive be- prefix, giving us beravid.
What does qasd dârid literally mean?
The phrase qasd dâshtan is a compound verb that literally means to have intention. Here, qasd means intention and dârid means you have.
Is the connector word ke always required between the two verbs?
In formal or written Farsi, ke is standard for linking the main verb to the subjunctive verb. However, in everyday spoken Farsi, it is very common to drop it entirely and just say shomâ qasd dârid be ân jazire beravid.
Can I drop the word âyâ at the beginning of the sentence?
Yes! The word âyâ is a formal question marker used for yes/no questions. In spoken Farsi, you can simply remove it and use a rising tone of voice at the end of the sentence to show it is a question.
