Questions & Answers about آتش خطرناک است؛ ممکن است که کارگرها آسیب ببینند.
Why does the sentence use bebinand instead of the normal present tense?
Because of the phrase momken ast ke (it is possible that). In Farsi, impersonal phrases expressing possibility or necessity force the following verb into the present subjunctive. That is why we use the subjunctive form bebinand.
How does the word bebinand translate to "get injured"?
It does not mean that on its own! The Farsi verb for "to get injured" is a compound verb: âsib didan. Literally, this translates to "to see injury" because âsib means injury or harm, and didan means to see. So, âsib bebinand literally means "they see injury".
How do we form the subjunctive for a compound verb like âsib didan?
To make a compound verb subjunctive, you only change the action verb part and leave the noun part alone. The present stem of didan (to see) is bin. We add the subjunctive be- prefix and the "they" ending -and to get bebinand, while the word âsib stays exactly the same in front of it.
What does the suffix -nâk do in the word khatarnâk?
The suffix -nâk is added to nouns to mean "full of" or "causing". Here, it is added to the noun khatar (danger) to make the adjective khatarnâk (dangerous).
Is the word ke required after momken ast?
You will often hear native speakers drop ke (that) in spoken Farsi, just like we sometimes drop "that" in English sentences (for example, "It is possible the workers get injured"). However, including it as momken ast ke is grammatically complete and very common.
