Questions & Answers about من این پارچه را با نخ ضعیف نخواهم دوخت.
How is the negative future tense formed in naxâham duxt?
To make the future tense negative, we add the negative prefix na- to the conjugated auxiliary verb xâstan (to want), giving us naxâham (I will not). The main verb stays in its short infinitive form, duxt, which is just the infinitive duxtan (to sew) without the final -an.
Why do we say in pârče without a linking sound, but we use one in nax-e za'if?
Words like in (this) and ân (that) always come before the noun and do not use the ezafe (the linking -e sound). However, normal descriptive adjectives like za'if (weak) come after the noun, so they must be connected to nax (thread) with the ezafe.
Why is the direct object marker râ used here?
The word râ shows that pârče (fabric) is the specific direct object receiving the action. Because the fabric is pointed out specifically with the word in (this), it is definite, so we must put râ right after the entire noun phrase in pârče.
If I wanted to use the lesson's grammar to say I will sew na this fabric na that fabric (neither this nor that), would the verb stay negative?
Yes! Unlike English, Farsi requires a double negative when using na... na... (neither... nor...). The verb must remain negative, so you would still use naxâham duxt at the end of the sentence.
