Questions & Answers about آیا شما دیروز از آن مکان تاریخی بازدید کردید؟
Since we are learning about the indefinite marker '-i', is the ی at the end of تاریخی the indefinite marker?
Good catch, but no! The ی at the end of تاریخی (tArikhi) is an adjective-forming suffix. It turns the noun تاریخ (tArikh - history) into the adjective historical. The indefinite marker looks exactly the same but has a different grammatical function.
Why do we use از (az - from) here?
The compound verb بازدید کردن (bAzdid kardan - to visit) requires the preposition از (az). In Farsi, you do not directly visit a place; instead, you literally make a visit from it.
Do I have to use آیا (AyA) to ask a yes/no question?
You do not have to! آیا is a formal question word used to introduce a yes/no question. In casual, spoken Farsi, people usually leave it out completely and just use a rising tone of voice at the end of the sentence to show it is a question.
How are the words connected in آن مکان تاریخی (that historical place)? Is there an ezafe?
Yes, there is an unseen ezafe (a short 'e' sound) connecting the noun مکان (makAn - place) to its adjective تاریخی (tArikhi). It is pronounced makAn-e tArikhi. However, demonstrative words like آن (An - that) sit in front of the noun and never take an ezafe.
