Questions & Answers about به عکسها نگاه میکنیم.
Why is the word به at the start of the sentence?
به often translates to 'to', but here it means 'at'. In Farsi, the verb for looking connects to its object using به. You can think of the literal translation as 'We give a look to the photos.'
How do we know it means 'photos' instead of just one 'photo'?
The base word for photo is عکس. The suffix ها is added to the end of most nouns to make them plural. Together, عکسها means 'photos'.
Why is the verb for 'we look' made of two words (نگاه میکنیم)?
Farsi uses many 'compound verbs' that combine a noun with a helper verb. Here, نگاه means 'a look' and میکنیم means 'we do'. Combined, they create the action 'we look'.
Where is the Farsi word for 'we' in this sentence?
The word for 'we' (ما) is left out because Farsi speakers usually drop it. You can tell who is doing the action by looking at the verb ending. The ـیم ending on میکنیم strictly means 'we'.
