Questions & Answers about آیا این کتاب خسته‌کننده است؟ نه، خیلی جالب است.

Since the lesson is about chon (because), how could I use it to combine these two ideas?

You can use it to say the book is not boring because it is interesting! In Farsi, that would be in ketab khaste-konande nist chon kheyli jaleb ast. Notice how chon connects the two phrases in the middle, just like the word because does in English.

Do I always have to start yes/no questions with aya?

No, you do not! In spoken Farsi, people usually drop aya and just raise their tone of voice at the end of the sentence to show it is a question. You can just ask in ketab khaste-konande ast? and it means the exact same thing.

The word for boring, khaste-konande, is quite long. Where does it come from?

It is built from two pieces: khaste means tired, and konande means maker or doer. So khaste-konande literally translates to tired-making. Combining words like this is a very common way to create adjectives in Farsi.

Why is ast (is) at the very end of both sentences?

Farsi is a Subject-Object-Verb language, meaning verbs almost always go at the very end of the sentence. Unlike English where we put the verb in the middle (It is very interesting), Farsi places the verb last, giving us kheyli jaleb ast (very interesting is).
