Questions & Answers about او یک پیشنهاد داد، اما ما نپذیرفتیمش.
What does the -ش at the end of نپذیرفتیمش do?
This is the main point of this lesson! The -ش (pronounced -esh or -ash) is an object pronoun attached directly to the verb. Here, it means "it" and refers back to the offer. Instead of using a separate word for "it", Farsi just sticks -ش onto the end of the verb.
How exactly is the word نپذیرفتیمش put together?
It is built from three pieces: the negative prefix نـ (na-) meaning "not", the past-tense verb پذیرفتیم (paziroftim) meaning "we accepted", and the attached pronoun -ش (-esh) meaning "it". Combined, it perfectly translates to "we did not accept it".
Why does the Farsi sentence use داد (gave) to mean "made"?
Farsi uses compound verbs (a noun combined with a generic verb) very often. The phrase for "to make an offer" or "to suggest" is پیشنهاد دادن (literally "to give an offer"). Because of this, داد (the past tense of "to give") is the correct verb to use here.
The verb already tells us it means "we didn't accept". Why is the word ما (we) also there?
You don't strictly need it! The -یم ending on the verb already tells us the subject is "we". Adding ما before it just adds a little bit of emphasis or contrast, like saying "he made an offer, but we didn't accept it."
