دوست من یک کامپیوتر جدید ندارد.

Questions & Answers about دوست من یک کامپیوتر جدید ندارد.

How do we make the verb دارد negative to get ندارد?
To make the present tense of 'to have' negative, we simply add the negative prefix نـ (na-) directly to the beginning of the verb. So دارد (dârad) becomes ندارد (nadârad). Notice that this verb is a bit special because it does not use the می (mi-) prefix that most other present tense verbs need.
Why is there an invisible connecting sound in دوست من and کامپیوتر جدید?
That is the Ezafe! In Farsi, nouns are linked to their owners (friend of mine) or to their adjectives (computer new) using a short "e" sound. Because short vowels are rarely written out in the Persian alphabet, you will not see it in the text, but you must remember to pronounce it as duste man and kâmpyutere jadid.
Why does یک come before the noun, but the adjective جدید comes after it?
In Farsi word order, numbers and counting words like یک (one or a) always come before the noun they describe. Adjectives like جدید (new), on the other hand, almost always follow the noun and connect to it with that hidden Ezafe "e" sound.
In spoken Farsi, will people actually say ندارد exactly as it is written here?
In formal or written Farsi, yes. However, in everyday conversation, Iranians usually drop the final "d" sound from this 3rd-person verb ending. Because of this, you will very often hear people say نداره (nadâre) instead of the full written form ندارد (nadârad).
