ما یک مشکل جدید داریم.

Questions & Answers about ما یک مشکل جدید داریم.

Why doesn't داریم (dârim) start with the "mi-" prefix like other present tense verbs?
The verb dâshtan (to have) is an important exception in Farsi. While most verbs need the mi- prefix in the present tense, "to have" does not use it. You just take the present stem dâr- and add the personal ending. So "we have" is simply dârim, never "midârim".
How do we know داریم means "we have"?
Farsi verbs change their endings to match the subject. The -im at the end of dârim is the specific ending for "we" (). Because this ending already makes it obvious who is doing the action, you could actually drop the word from the beginning of the sentence and it would still mean the exact same thing!
Why is it written as مشکل جدید (problem new) instead of "new problem"?
In Farsi, adjectives usually come right after the noun they describe. When speaking, you connect the noun and adjective with a short "e" sound called the ezafe. Even though this sound is usually hidden and not written in the Farsi text, you must pronounce the phrase as moshkel-e jadid.
Why is the verb داریم placed at the very end of the sentence?
Farsi typically follows a Subject-Object-Verb word order. The subject (we) is placed first, the object yek moshkel-e jadid (a new problem) sits in the middle, and the verb always anchors the very end of the sentence.
