Questions & Answers about دوست من یک خبر عالی دارد.

Why doesn't the verb dârad (has) start with the mi- prefix like other present tense verbs?
The verb dâshtan (to have) is an important exception in Farsi! While most verbs in the present tense need the mi- prefix to show they are happening right now, dâshtan does not. For "he/she/it has", you just say dârad, not "midârad".
How do the words dust (friend) and man (I/me) connect to mean "my friend"?
They are linked by the ezafe, which is a short "e" sound added to the end of the first word. You pronounce it dust-e man (literally "friend of me"). The ezafe is usually invisible in the Farsi script, so you just have to remember to add it when speaking!
Is there also an ezafe between khabar (news) and aali (excellent)?
Yes! Just like linking a noun to its owner, Farsi uses the ezafe to link a noun to its describing adjective. The noun always comes first, followed by the "e" sound, then the adjective. So it is pronounced khabar-e aali.
Why does the sentence use yek (a/one) before news? In English we don't say "a news".
In English, "news" is an uncountable noun, so we say "a piece of news" or "some news". But in Farsi, khabar is a regular countable noun. Saying yek khabar is grammatically correct and translates to "a piece of news" or simply "news".
