Questions & Answers about صد سیب روی میز است.
Why is سیب (apple) singular when there are a hundred of them?
In Farsi, nouns that come directly after a number always stay in their singular form. So instead of saying "one hundred apples" like in English, you literally say "one hundred apple" (صد سیب).
Do I need to put the word for "one" (یک) before صد to mean "one hundred"?
You don't need to! The word صد by itself means "one hundred". Farsi uses specific single words for the other hundreds (like دویست for two hundred), so صد on its own naturally means exactly one hundred.
Why does the sentence use the singular verb است (is) if there are a hundred apples?
In Farsi, plural things that are not alive (inanimate objects like apples or tables) usually take a singular verb. So even though we translate it as "apples are" in English, the Farsi grammar literally says "one hundred apple is" (صد سیب ... است).
How are the words for "on" (روی) and "table" (میز) connected when spoken?
They are linked by a grammatical tool called the ezafe. Because روی ends in a vowel sound, the connecting sound becomes "ye". When reading or speaking, you pronounce this phrase together as "ru-ye miz".
