According to: به گفتهی
To attribute statements, opinions, or facts to a specific source, Farsi frequently uses the phrase به گفتهی (according to / in the words of).
This phrase ends with the ezafe (the ی), which directly links it to the noun or name that follows. It is typically placed at the very beginning of the sentence to establish the source of the information right away.
| According to the designer, this style is very beautiful. | به گفتهی طراح، این استایل خیلی زیبا است.be gofte-ye tarrâh, in estâyl kheyli zibâ ast. |
| According to the manager, this is one of the best brands. | به گفتهی مدیر، این یکی از بهترین برندها است.be gofte-ye modir, in yeki az behtarin brand-hâ ast. |
Quoting from: به نقل از
Another common way to cite a source—especially in journalism, critiques, or formal contexts—is به نقل از (quoting from).
Unlike the previous phrase, this marker uses the preposition از (from) to connect to the source instead of the ezafe.
| Quoting the designer, this trend changes fashion. | به نقل از طراح، این ترند مد را تغییر میدهد.be naghl az tarrâh, in trend mod râ taghyir midahad. |
| Quoting the newspaper, the formal clothes of this brand are expensive. | به نقل از روزنامه، لباسهای مجلسی این برند گران هستند.be naghl az ruznâme, lebâs-hâ-ye majlesi in berand gerân hastand. |
Expanding the Source Description
Sources are rarely just a single name. Both به گفتهی and به نقل از can easily attach to longer descriptions, titles, or compound phrases.
| According to the editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine, stylish women prefer simple clothes. | به گفتهی سردبیر مجلهی مد، زنان شیکپوش لباسهای ساده را ترجیح میدهند.be gofte-ye sardabir-e majalle-ye mod, zanân-e shik-push lebâs-hâ-ye sâde râ tarjih midahand. |
| Quoting from the editor-in-chief, this trend is so beautiful that it adds to everyone's charm. | به نقل از سردبیر، این ترند آنقدر زیبا است که به جذابیت همه اضافه میکند.be naql az sardabir, in terend ânqadr zibâ ast ke be jazzâbiyat hame ezâfe mikonad. |
| In the words of that stylish designer, the charm of this brand is in its simple colors. | به گفتهی آن طراح شیکپوش، جذابیت این برند در رنگهای سادهی آن است.be gofte-ye ân tarrâh shik-poosh, jazzâbiyat-e in berand dar rang-hâ-ye sâde-ye ân ast. |
