Providing conditions (be sharti ke)

Providing Conditions

To express "provided that" or "on the condition that," Farsi frequently uses the phrase به شرطی که.

on the condition that / provided that
به شرطی کهbe sharti ke

Because this phrase introduces a stipulation rather than a confirmed fact, the verb in the following clause must always be in the Present Subjunctive.

This structure is heavily used in official agreements, such as outlining the requirements for adopting a pet and becoming its guardian (سرپرست).

Formal Stipulations

For a slightly more formal tone, you can use مشروط بر اینکه. This carries the exact same meaning and also requires the Present Subjunctive.

You will often hear this used by institutions, like an animal shelter outlining the rules for a pet's health and vaccination schedule.

This structure works seamlessly for negative conditions. Just use the negative prefix (نـ) on the subjunctive verb.
