Present perfect passive (shode ast / shode-and)

The Present Perfect Passive

When reporting recent news, local infrastructure changes, or public announcements, you will frequently describe current states that are the result of completed passive actions (like a road that has been closed or a budget that has been sent). Farsi expresses this using the Present Perfect Passive.

For simple verbs, you form this by combining the past participle of the main verb (Past Stem + ه) with the present perfect of شدن (to become/to get). Because official news often centers on a single event or entity, the third-person singular شده است is the most common auxiliary.

Compound Verbs

Just as with other tenses, Farsi news heavily utilizes compound verbs formed with کردن (to do). To make these verbs passive, you do not need to create a past participle. Simply replace the active کردن with the passive شده است.

Negation and Plural Subjects

To negate the present perfect passive, apply the negative prefix نـ directly to the auxiliary verb, turning شده است into نشده است.

Remember that in Farsi grammar, plural inanimate subjects—such as roads, documents, or buildings—usually take a singular verb. When talking about multiple highways or announcements, the passive verb will remain in the singular شده است (or نشده است).
