Plural Possessive Suffixes
Just as with singular possessives, attach suffixes to the end of a noun to express plural possession ("our", "your", and "their").
The plural possessive suffixes are:
- مان (our)
- تان (your)
- شان (their)
(Unlike the singular possessives, these suffixes attach directly even to nouns ending in silent ه — the last section explains.)
First Person: "Our" (مان)
| Our family is very big. | خانوادهمان خیلی بزرگ است.khânevâde-mân kheyli bozorg ast. |
| Our grandfather is very tired today. | پدربزرگمان امروز خیلی خسته است.pedarbozorgemân emrooz kheyli khaste ast. |
Second Person: "Your" (تان)
Use تان to express "your" when speaking to multiple people, or to show formal respect to a single person.
| Is your family here? | آیا خانوادهتان اینجا است؟âyâ khânevâdetân injâ ast? |
| Your horse is very big and black. | اسبتان خیلی بزرگ و سیاه است.asbetân kheyli bozorg o siyâh ast. |
Third Person: "Their" (شان)
| Their grandmother is in the yard. | مادربزرگشان داخل حیاط است.mâdarbozorgeshân dâkhel-e hayât ast. |
| Their horse is not in the street. | اسبشان داخل خیابان نیست.asbeshân dâkhel-e khiyâbân nist. |
Nouns Ending in a Vowel
When a noun ends in the silent vowel ه, simply attach the plural suffix directly. (Unlike singular possessive suffixes, no extra connecting letter is needed.)
| Their paternal aunt is a happy woman. | عمهشان یک زن خوشحال است.amme-shân yek zan khoshhâl ast. |
If a noun ends in a long vowel like و, insert a ی to connect the suffix smoothly.
| Our paternal uncle is a doctor in this hospital. | عمویمان داخل این بیمارستان دکتر است.amuye-mân dâkhel-e in bimârestân doktor ast. |
