Clauses of extent (tâ jâyi ke)

Setting Boundaries: "As Far As"

When you want to qualify your statements by saying "as far as" or "to the extent that," Farsi uses the phrase تا جایی که (literally: "to the place that"). This is incredibly useful for clarifying the limits of your knowledge or information.

Because you are stating the reality of what you know right now, the verb following تا جایی که takes the regular indicative mood (like the simple present or past), rather than the subjunctive.

You can pair this phrase with various ways of saying "I know" or "I am informed," such as خبر دارم (I have news/am informed) or آگاهی دارم (I have awareness).

Professional Caveats

In formal or professional settings, you might use adjectives like مطلع (informed) to sound a bit more polished when discussing the accuracy (صحت) of reports or assessing a situation.

Limits of Ability and Action

The phrase تا جایی که isn't just for stating what you know; it is also used to describe the practical limits of what someone can do ("to the extent that...").

Memory and Absolute Limits

Finally, you can easily pair this structure with verbs of memory ("as far as I remember"), or use it to explicitly point out boundaries and limits (حد).
