Questions & Answers about Het roze logo past perfect op de blanco mok.
Why doesn't blanco get an -e ending when it describes de mok?
This is because blanco is an invariable adjective. Loanwords ending in a vowel (like blanco, lila, or gratis) and words indicating materials (like plastic) never get an -e ending, regardless of the noun's gender or the article used.
Logo is a het-word preceded by the definite article het, so standard rules say the adjective should get an -e. Why doesn't roze get one?
Adjectives for colors that already end in an unstressed -e (like roze and oranje) are also invariable. Adding another -e would make the spelling and pronunciation awkward, so they always keep their base form.
Is perfect also an invariable adjective in this sentence?
No, perfect is acting as an adverb here, meaning "perfectly." It describes the verb past (how the logo fits), not a noun. In Dutch, adverbs almost always use the base adjective form without an -e.
Wait, doesn't past op mean to babysit or watch out for?
It can, but context is key here! The separable verb oppassen means "to watch out" or "to look after" (for example, ik pas op de hond means "I look after the dog"). However, in this sentence, we are just using the regular verb passen (to fit) followed by the preposition op (on). It literally means it "fits on" the mug.
