Questions & Answers about Aangenomen dat we de financiering krijgen, moeten we rendabel opschalen.

How does aangenomen dat differ from stel dat in this context?

While both are used for hypothetical assumptions, aangenomen dat (assuming that) sounds a bit more formal and is often used for realistic business or logistical conditions, like getting funding. Stel dat (suppose that / imagine if) is often used for more imaginative or unlikely "what if" scenarios, though they can overlap.

Why does the main clause start with moeten we instead of we moeten?

The entire subordinate clause (Aangenomen dat we de financiering krijgen) occupies the first position in the overall sentence. Because Dutch is a Verb-Second language, the conjugated verb of the main clause (moeten) must take the second position, placing it right before the subject (we).

Since opschalen is a separable verb, why isn't it separated here?

It is indeed a separable verb (op + schalen), but it doesn't separate here because of the modal verb moeten. The modal verb takes the conjugated second position, pushing opschalen to the very end of the sentence in its full, unseparated infinitive form.

Is rendabel an adjective or an adverb here?
