Learn Dutch: We wachten al anderhalve week en we raken gefrustreerd. - We have been waiting for a week and a half and we are getting frustrated.

In Dutch, if an action started in the past and is still continuing now, you use the present tense. The word al (already) combined with the time period (anderhalve week) makes it clear that the waiting is still going on.

Why is the noun week singular after anderhalve, and why does the number end in -e?

In Dutch, quantities involving "half" like anderhalf (one and a half) are followed by a singular noun, not plural. Because week is a de-word, anderhalf takes an adjective-like -e ending, making it anderhalve week.

Is the word al required here to mean "for" a week and a half?

The word al translates literally to "already," but in time durations like this, it naturally implies that the action has been going on "for" that length of time. While you could grammatically just say We wachten anderhalve week, adding al emphasizes your impatience or frustration at how long it has been.

How is raken gefrustreerd different from using worden gefrustreerd?
