Questions & Answers about Ik kijk weer naar de serie.
Why do we need naar if the English translation is just "watching the series"?
In Dutch, you don't usually just "watch" a broadcast; you "look at" it. The verb kijken heavily relies on the preposition naar (at/to) when you are watching TV, a movie, or a series.
Why does the adverb weer (again) go between the verb and naar?
Just like the frequency adverbs you are learning (vaak, soms, etc.), weer likes to stick close to the verb. In a basic sentence, it goes right after the main conjugated verb (kijk) and before the phrase it relates to (naar de serie).
Is serie singular or plural here?
It is singular! Even though the English word "series" ends in an "s" for just one show, the Dutch word for one show is de serie. If you were watching multiple shows, the plural would be de series.
The English translation says "I am watching", but isn't kijk just "I watch"?
Yes, but Dutch uses its simple present tense (Ik kijk) for both "I watch" and "I am watching". While Dutch does have ways to express that you are currently in the middle of an action, using the simple present is the most common and natural way to translate this.
