Why doesn't the past participle verdiend start with ge-?
The verb verdienen (to earn) starts with the prefix ver-. Verbs that start with inseparable, unstressed prefixes like be-, ge-, her-, ont-, and ver- do not get the usual ge- added to the front of their past participles.
