Questions & Answers about Welke jas heb je liever?
Why is it Welke jas and not Welk jas?
Because jas (coat) is a de-word (de jas). You use welke for all de-words and plural words. You only use welk with singular het-words.
Where is the verb for 'prefer' in this sentence?
Dutch does not use a single everyday verb for 'prefer'. Instead, it uses the phrase liever hebben (literally: to have rather). So, heb je liever translates to 'do you prefer'.
What does liever mean on its own?
Liever means 'rather'. It is actually the comparative form of the word graag (which means you do something gladly or with pleasure). So if you have something liever, you literally have it 'more gladly'.
Why does the verb heb come before je?
This is the standard word order for questions. The question block (Welke jas) comes first, followed immediately by the verb (heb), and then the subject (je).
