Questions & Answers about Uvijek gledamo film.
Why is the verb gledamo instead of gledati?
Gledati is the dictionary form meaning 'to watch'. Because this lesson focuses on regular -ati verbs, to say 'we watch', we drop the -ti and add the 'we' ending -mo, giving us gledamo.
Where is the word for 'we' in this sentence?
In Croatian, you usually do not need to use the pronoun mi (we). The verb ending -mo in gledamo already tells us exactly who is doing the action. You would only add mi if you wanted to emphasize it.
Why doesn't the word film change its ending, since it is the object being watched?
Film is a masculine noun. When a masculine noun is the direct object (in the accusative case), its ending only changes if the noun is alive, like a person or an animal. Since a movie is not alive, film looks exactly the same as its dictionary form.
Is it possible to put uvijek at the end of the sentence?
Yes, Croatian word order is quite flexible. You could say Gledamo film uvijek, but putting time words like uvijek (always) at the beginning or right before the verb is the most natural and common way to say it.
