Questions & Answers about Tvoja radost je i moja radost.
Why do the feminine adjectives tvoja and moja pair with radost, which ends in a consonant?
While most feminine nouns in Croatian end in -a, there is a special group of feminine nouns that end in a consonant (the i-declension). Nouns ending in the suffix -ost, like radost (joy), belong to this group and are feminine. That is why they must take feminine adjectives like tvoja and moja.
What case is radost in this sentence, and how would it change in the accusative?
Here, both instances of radost are in the nominative case. A handy rule for these feminine consonant-ending nouns is that their accusative singular form is exactly the same as their nominative form. So, if joy were the direct object of an action (like 'I feel joy'), the word would remain radost.
Why are both sides of the sentence (tvoja radost and moja radost) in the nominative case?
Sentences that use a form of the verb biti (to be) to say that 'A is B' use the nominative case for both parts. The verb 'to be' acts like an equals sign rather than an action directed at an object, so the second part does not take the accusative case.
Why is the word i translated as 'also' here instead of 'and'?
Although i is the standard word for 'and', it acts as an emphasizing word meaning 'also', 'too', or 'even' when placed directly in front of the concept it modifies. Here, placing i right before moja radost highlights that the joy belongs to the speaker as well.
