Questions & Answers about Idete li ikada u teretanu?
How is ikada different from nikad, which we learned in this lesson?
Ikada means "ever", and it is used to ask if something happens at any time, like in this question. Nikad means "never". If you wanted to answer "I never go to the gym", you would use nikad.
Why does the word for gym change to teretanu here instead of staying as teretana?
Because the verb ići (to go) involves motion toward a destination. When you use the preposition u (to/into) to show where you are going, the noun must be in the accusative case. For feminine nouns ending in -a like teretana, the ending changes to -u.
Why is the question particle li placed right after idete?
In Croatian, when you form a yes/no question without using da li, you put the verb first (Idete), and the question particle li must come immediately after it. The frequency adverb ikada then follows naturally.
Is idete asking one person or a group of people?
It could be either! Idete is the "you" form for plural (you all). However, Croatian uses this exact same form as a polite, formal way to address a single person, such as a stranger or a teacher.
