Learn Croatian: Njihova kamera je gora nego naša. - Their camera is worse than ours.

gora means worse and is the irregular comparative form of the adjective loš (bad). Here it ends in -a because it describes kamera, which is a feminine noun. The masculine dictionary form is gori.

How does the word nego work for comparisons here?

In this sentence, nego is used to mean than. A great thing about using nego is that the word after it stays in the same case as the word before it. Since kamera is in the basic nominative case, the pronoun naša remains in the nominative too.

Could I use od instead of nego to say than?

Yes, you can use od for comparisons, but it requires the following word to be in the genitive case. If you used it here, the sentence would change to Njihova kamera je gora od naše. Using nego is often easier for learners because you do not have to change the case!

Why do the possessive words njihova and naša both end in -a?

They are possessives meaning their and ours. Even though naša appears alone at the end of the sentence, it still refers back to the feminine noun kamera. Because of this, both possessives must take the feminine singular ending -a to match.
