Questions & Answers about Smislit ćemo novi plan i odraditi posao.
Why is the perfective verb smisliti used here instead of just misliti?
Misliti is an imperfective verb meaning to think, which describes a continuous action. By adding the prefix s-, we get the perfective verb smisliti, which means to come up with or to figure out. It focuses on reaching a specific result, which is what you do when finalizing a new plan.
What does the prefix od- add to the verb raditi to make odraditi?
Raditi is an imperfective verb meaning to work or to do. Adding the prefix od- creates the perfective verb odraditi, which means to finish a task completely. It emphasizes that the job will be fully completed, not just worked on for a while.
Why does smislit drop its final i, while odraditi keeps it?
In the Croatian future tense, when a verb ending in -ti comes right before the helper verb (ćemo), it drops its final i, so smisliti becomes smislit. Because odraditi comes later in the sentence and is separated from the helper verb, it keeps its full form. Note that both verbs share the same helper verb ćemo to show they are both in the future tense.
Why don't the endings for novi plan and posao change if they are the direct objects?
