Going, Riding, and Traveling
In Croatian, the general verb for "to go" is ići. However, when you want to emphasize that you are taking a vehicle rather than going on foot (pješice), use the reflexive verb voziti se (to ride / to be driven).
If you are going on a longer trip or journey rather than just a local ride, use the verb putovati (to travel).
You will often use these specific verbs of motion to describe regular habits, such as what you do redovito (regularly).
Passengers and Stops
When discussing public transit, there are a few key nouns to know. A person traveling is a putnik (passenger), and the trip itself is a vožnja (ride).
To catch your ride, you will need to find the right stanica (stop or local station).
Departures and Transfers
When it is time for your vehicle to leave, you use the verb krenuti (to set off / to start moving) and the noun odlazak (departure).
These terms work for any mode of transportation, including a trajekt (ferry).
For a longer putovanje (journey), you might not have a direct route. If you need to change buses or trains along the way, use the verb presjesti (to transfer).
