Spatial Distribution: Diljem and Širom
To describe things spreading or existing over large areas, use the prepositions diljem and širom. Both mean "throughout" or "across" and are interchangeable. They always take the genitive case.
| We are delivering humanitarian aid across the endangered area. | Dostavljamo humanitarnu pomoć diljem ugroženog područja. |
| Volunteers are providing shelters throughout the whole state. | Volonteri osiguravaju skloništa diljem cijele države. |
| At the end of winter, the situation is difficult across this area. | Krajem zime situacija je teška diljem ovog područja. |
The preposition širom works exactly the same way:
| In the middle of the month, medical convoys travel across the region. | Sredinom mjeseca medicinski konvoji putuju širom regije. |

When referring to multiple locations, use the genitive plural (for example, ugroženi gradovi becomes ugroženih gradova):
