To frame a situation based on specific circumstances, use the complex preposition s obzirom na ("considering" or "with regard to"). It is especially useful when dealing with unpredictable situations, like planning an outdoor event!
The Accusative Case
The preposition na must always be followed by the Accusative case.
For feminine nouns and adjectives ending in -a, such as vremenska prognoza (weather forecast) or ceremonija (ceremony), the Accusative ending changes to -u:
| Considering the weather forecast, uncertainty is our biggest problem. | S obzirom na vremensku prognozu, neizvjesnost je naš najveći problem. |
| Considering the ceremony, a downpour is a huge problem. | S obzirom na ceremoniju, pljusak je ogroman problem. |
Nouns That Do Not Change
For inanimate masculine nouns like pljusak (downpour) and feminine nouns ending in a consonant like neizvjesnost (uncertainty), the Accusative form is identical to the Nominative. The endings do not change:
| Considering the downpour, we will move the reception into the tent. | S obzirom na pljusak, premjestit ćemo prijem u šator. |
| Considering the uncertainty, the registrar is talking about the backup plan. | S obzirom na neizvjesnost, matičar priča o rezervnom planu. |
Plural Accusative
For masculine plural nouns like uzvanici (invitees), the Accusative plural ending is -e (uzvanike):
| Considering the invitees, the reception will be inside. | S obzirom na uzvanike, prijem će biti unutra. |
