Plural Subject Pronouns
In Arabic, independent subject pronouns are stand-alone words used for the subject of a sentence, such as "we", "you all", or "they". Just like with singular pronouns, you do not need a word for "are" when stating what a group is or where they are.
"We" with نحن
To say "we", use the pronoun نحن.
| we | نحنnahnu |
| We are a new team. | نحن فريق جديد.nahnu farîqun jadîdun. |
"They" with هم
To talk about a group of people as "they", use the pronoun هم.
| they | همhum |
| They are an excellent group. | هم مجموعة ممتازة.hum majmû'atun mumtâzah |
"You all" with أنتم
To address a group of people directly as "you all" (the plural form of "you"), use the pronoun أنتم.
| you all | أنتمantum |
| Are you all in the stadium now? | هل أنتم في الملعب الآن؟hal antum fi l-mal'abi l-ân? |
Describing Groups and Using "With"
To express that someone is "with" a person or a group, use the preposition مع.
| with | معma'a |
| Yes, we are with the team. | نعم، نحن مع الفريق.naam, nahnu maa al-fariq |
When describing teams or groups, you will often use adjectives like رياضي (athletic) and قوي (strong). Notice that the adjective always comes after the noun it describes.
| They are a strong athletic team. | هم فريق رياضي قوي.hum fariiqun riyâdiyyun qawiyyun |
| You all are a strong group. | أنتم مجموعة قوية.antum majmuatun qawiyyatun. |
