Questions & Answers about نحن فريق جديد.
Does the word for "we" change depending on whether a group of men or women is speaking?
No, the pronoun نحن is used for "we" regardless of whether the speakers are all male, all female, or a mixed group. Unlike the Arabic words for "they" or "you" (plural), نحن is gender-neutral.
Where is the word for "are" in this sentence?
Arabic doesn't use a word for "am", "is", or "are" in simple present-tense sentences like this one. You just put the subject (نحن, we) right next to what they are (فريق جديد, a new team), and the "are" is understood.
Since "we" is plural, why aren't the words for "team" and "new" plural too?
Even though "we" represents multiple people, the word فريق (team) is grammatically a single thing (a singular noun). Because the team is singular, the adjective describing it, جديد (new), must also be in its singular form to match.
Why is the word order "team new" instead of "new team"?
In Arabic, adjectives always come directly after the noun they describe. So instead of saying "a new team", you say فريق جديد, which literally translates to "a team new".
