Satisfacer: Full Conjugation

Satisfacer means "to satisfy." It is one of Spanish's stranger verbs because it conjugates almost exactly like hacer — with a few twists. Historically it's built from satis + facer (the old form of hacer), and it preserves every hacer-style irregularity: the g in satisfago, the irregular preterite satisfice, the future stem satisfar-, and the participle satisfecho.

The only form where satisfacer departs from hacer is in the imperative, where both satisfaz and satisface are accepted (unlike hacer, which takes only haz).

Present Indicative

SubjectForm
yosatisfago
satisfaces
él / ella / ustedsatisface

Esta respuesta no me satisface.

This answer doesn't satisfy me.

Preterite

SubjectForm
yosatisfice
satisficiste
él / ella / ustedsatisfizo
nosotros / nosotrassatisficimos
ellos / ellas / ustedessatisficieron

Note the irregular i stem (satisfic-) and the z in satisfizo, exactly mirroring hacer's hice / hizo.

La comida satisfizo a todos los invitados.

The food satisfied all the guests.

Imperfect

SubjectForm
yosatisfacía
satisfacías
él / ella / ustedsatisfacía
nosotros / nosotrassatisfacíamos
ellos / ellas / ustedessatisfacían

The imperfect is fully regular.

Ese trabajo ya no me satisfacía.

That job no longer satisfied me.

Future

SubjectForm
yosatisfaré
satisfarás
él / ella / ustedsatisfará
nosotros / nosotrassatisfaremos
ellos / ellas / ustedessatisfarán

The future stem is satisfar-, parallel to haré / harás from hacer.

él / ella / ustedsatisfaría
nosotros / nosotrassatisfaríamos
ellos / ellas / ustedessatisfarían

Nada satisfaría más a mi abuela que vernos.

Nothing would satisfy my grandmother more than seeing us.

Present Subjunctive

SubjectForm
yosatisfaga
satisfagas
él / ella / ustedsatisfaga
nosotros / nosotrassatisfagamos
ellos / ellas / ustedessatisfagan

Queremos algo que satisfaga a todos.

We want something that satisfies everyone.

Imperfect Subjunctive (-ra forms)

ellos / ellas / ustedessatisficieran

Imperative

PersonForm
tú (affirmative)satisfaz / satisface
tú (negative)no satisfagas
ustedsatisfaga
nosotrossatisfagamos
ustedessatisfagan

Both satisfaz and satisface are accepted for the affirmative imperative, though satisface is more common in everyday Latin American speech.

Non-Finite Forms

  • Infinitive: satisfacer
  • Gerund: satisfaciendo
  • Past participle: satisfecho (irregular, parallel to hecho)

Common Uses

Satisfacer covers emotional, physical, and formal satisfaction: a need, a curiosity, a requirement. The participle satisfecho is also a common adjective: estoy satisfecho means "I'm satisfied" or, after a meal, "I'm full."

Estoy muy satisfecha con el resultado.

I'm very satisfied with the result.

La empresa ha satisfecho todos los requisitos.

The company has satisfied all the requirements.

💡
If you can conjugate [hacer], you already know 95% of satisfacer. Mentally substitute the hac- stem with satisfac- and almost every form works — except the future/conditional, where hacer uses har- and satisfacer uses satisfar-.
