Ducharse: Full Conjugation | Spanish (Latin America) Grammar

Ducharse means "to take a shower" or "to shower." It's derived from ducha ("shower") and is a completely regular reflexive -ar verb — no stem changes or spelling surprises.

The non-reflexive duchar ("to shower someone") exists but is rare; this verb is almost always reflexive.

Common Uses

Ducharse is specifically about showering. For taking a bath (in a tub), Spanish uses bañarse. In many Latin American countries, however, bañarse is also used generically for "to shower" — so don't be surprised if you hear both.

Me estoy duchando, te llamo en cinco minutos.

I'm showering, I'll call you in five minutes.

Los niños no quieren ducharse.

The kids don't want to take a shower.

Prefiero ducharme por la noche.

I prefer to shower at night.

In Mexico and much of Central America, bañarse is the default verb for "to shower," even when there's no bathtub involved. In the Southern Cone and Spain, ducharse is more common.
