This guided sequence turns already taught A2 grammar into everyday action. It introduces no new construction. You will recycle requests, quantities, shopping, health expressions, plans, past narration, and politeness across complete interactions, then compare your production with original annotated dialogues.
First complete the core checkpoints in A2 Core Morphology: counted nouns, discourse-sensitive را, basic clitics, simple past versus present perfect, controlled subjunctive complements, and short clause linking. This path assumes those forms and asks whether you can select them quickly for a communicative purpose.

Stage ۱: Ask, offer, and repair politely
Start with Making Requests and Offers and Making Requests without Sounding Abrupt. Review polite and plural imperatives and negative imperatives.
Politeness is distributed across address, verb number, opening phrase, explanation, and tone. English please is not a universal repair for an abrupt Persian command. Practice a three-part request: attention getter, request, and acknowledgment.
ببخشید، میشود پنجره را کمی باز کنید؟ — بله، حتما.
bebakhshid, mi-shavad panjare râ kami bâz konid? — bale, hatman.
Excuse me, could you open the window a little? — Yes, certainly. (polite)
لطفا اینجا منتظر نمانید؛ همکارم شما را صدا میکند.
lotfan injâ montazer namânid; hamkâr-am shomâ râ sedâ mi-konad.
Please don't wait here; my colleague will call you. (polite/plural)
Production goal: perform one request that is granted and another that cannot be granted. The second partner must give a reason and offer an alternative. Review loop: say the same content to a friend with singular forms, then return to the service-register version without mixing paradigms.
Stage ۲: Complete a purchase
Use Shopping and Prices, numbers with nouns, and counting words. Also review indefinite quantity.
Keep three structures distinct: a unit price (کیلویی چند است؟), a measured amount (دو کیلو سیب), and a counted item (سه تا پرتقال). Persian normally keeps the noun singular after the number.
این چای بستهای چند است؟ — بستهای صد و چهل هزار تومان.
in chây baste-i chand ast? — baste-i sad-o chehel hezâr tumân.
How much is this tea per packet? — 140,000 tomans per packet.
یک کیلو خیار و پنج تا لیمو میخواهم.
yek kilu khiyâr va panj tâ limu mi-khâham.
I'd like one kilo of cucumbers and five lemons.
این دو بسته را برمیدارم؛ چیز دیگری لازم ندارم.
in do baste râ bar-mi-dâram; chiz-e digari lâzem nadâram.
I'll take these two packets; I don't need anything else.
Production goal: ask one unit price, order one weighed and one counted item, identify the selected goods with را, reject one offer politely, and ask for the total. Prices are practice data, not current claims.
Stage ۳: Report a health problem clearly
Work through Health and Body States. Learn each high-frequency expression as a construction: Persian may present a body part with a possessive clitic, a state with است, or an experiencer through a non-English alignment. Do not translate I have a headache word by word.
از دیشب گلویم درد میکند و کمی تب دارم.
az dishab gelu-yam dard mi-konad va kami tab dâram.
My throat has hurt since last night, and I have a slight fever.
این دارو را خوردهام، ولی سردردم هنوز بهتر نشده است.
in dâru râ khorde-am, vali sardard-am hanuz behtar nashode ast.
I have taken this medicine, but my headache still has not improved.
به این دارو حساسیت دارید؟ — نه، تا حالا نداشتهام.
be in dâru hassâsiyyat dârid? — na, tâ hâlâ nadâshte-am.
Are you allergic to this medicine? — No, I haven't been so far. (polite question)
Production goal: state onset, symptom, severity, prior action, and present result in five clauses. This is language practice, not medical advice. In an emergency, prioritize professional help over completing a perfect Persian sentence.
Stage ۴: Make, confirm, and revise a plan
Study Making Plans and Arrangements and compare the scheduling exchange in Original Messages: Planning a Visit. Recycle the present indicative for scheduled or intended future time, time phrases, and subjunctive complements after desire or recommendation.
جمعه صبح وقت داری با هم به نمایشگاه برویم؟
jom'e sobh vaqt dâri bâ ham be namâyeshgâh beravim?
Are you free Friday morning for us to go to the exhibition? (informal)
ساعت پنج نمیرسم؛ اگر موافقی، ساعت شش جلوی کافه میبینمت.
sâ'at-e panj nemi-resam; agar movâfeqi, sâ'at-e shesh jelo-ye kâfe mi-binam-at.
I can't make it by five; if you're okay with it, I'll see you at six in front of the café.
پس قرار شد جمعه صبح به موزه برویم.
pas qarâr shod jom'e sobh be muze beravim.
So we agreed to go to the museum Friday morning.
Production goal: propose, decline with a reason, offer another time, name a meeting place, and close with an explicit confirmation. Review loop: the next day, report the agreed plan from memory and check time, place, and person.
Stage ۵: Turn events into a short narrative
Use Talking about Completed Events and Telling a Past Story. A list of correct past forms is not yet a story. Give the listener an orientation, advance events in the simple past, and reserve the present perfect for a result or update connected to now.
صبح دیر بیدار شدم، اتوبوس را از دست دادم و با تاکسی به اداره رفتم.
sobh dir bidâr shodam, otobus râ az dast dâdam va bâ tâksi be edâre raftam.
I woke up late, missed the bus, and went to the office by taxi.
در راه فهمیدم که کلید اداره هنوز در خانه است.
dar râh fahmidam ke kelid-e edâre hanuz dar khâne ast.
On the way, I realized that the office key was still at home.
خوشبختانه همکارم کلید یدکی آورده است و الآن میتوانم وارد شوم.
khoshbakhtâne hamkâr-am kelid-e yadaki âvarde ast va al'ân mi-tavânam vâred shavam.
Fortunately, my colleague has brought the spare key, and now I can go in.
Production goal: give orientation, three ordered events, one complication, one response, and a present update. Review loop: retell it once with the event order deliberately scrambled, notice the loss of coherence, then restore chronological order.
Stage ۶: Mine original dialogues, then vary them
Read the original annotated pages for ordering tea, asking where the metro is, a daily routine, and shopping for fruit. Use each text in four passes:
- listen or read for the outcome;
- mark the request, reference, quantity, and tense choices;
- perform the original roles without looking;
- change one condition—item, time, symptom, route, or problem—and repair the conversation.
این بار چای نمیخواهم؛ یک آبمیوهی خنک لطفا.
in bâr chây nemi-khâham; yek âb-mive-ye khonak lotfan.
This time I don't want tea; a cold juice, please.
ایستگاه بسته است؛ از کدام خیابان باید برویم؟
istgâh baste ast; az kodâm khiyâbân bâyad beravim?
The station is closed; which street should we take?
Common Mistakes
Treating لطفا as the whole politeness system
⚠️ لطفا در را باز کن، آقا.
lotfan dar râ bâz kon, âqâ.
Register mismatch: لطفا is present, but the singular imperative is too familiar for this unknown adult.
✅ ببخشید آقا، لطفا در را باز کنید.
bebakhshid âqâ, lotfan dar râ bâz konid.
Excuse me, sir; please open the door. (polite)
Pluralizing a counted product
❌ چهار تا پرتقالها میخواهم.
Incorrect: after the numeral and counting word, the noun is normally singular.
✅ چهار تا پرتقال شیرین میخواهم.
chahâr tâ porteghâl-e shirin mi-khâham.
I'd like four sweet oranges.
Translating “my head hurts” with English possession
❌ من دارم درد سرم.
Malformed by English transfer; Persian uses the body-part subject with a possessive clitic and درد کردن.
✅ سرم از صبح درد میکند.
sar-am az sobh dard mi-konad.
My head has hurt since morning.
Leaving a plan implicit after negotiation
⚠️ شاید پنج یا شش، هر جا شد.
shâyad panj yâ shesh, har jâ shod.
Communication problem: maybe five or six, wherever works.
✅ پس ساعت شش جلوی ورودی اصلی همدیگر را میبینیم.
pas sâ'at-e shesh jelo-ye vorudi-ye asli hamdigar râ mi-binim.
So we'll meet at six in front of the main entrance.
Diagnostic exit task
Perform two linked role-plays without a script. In the first, buy a measured and a counted item, ask the price, reject one offer politely, and complete the purchase. In the second, message a friend afterward: explain one minor health problem, revise a plan, narrate what happened at the shop, and give a present update.
Pass when the partner can recover every quantity, price, symptom, time, and place; requests maintain one appropriate register; counted nouns stay singular; را tracks identifiable objects; and simple past advances the story while the perfect connects an earlier event to now. Record the exchange, annotate six choices with links to their specialist pages, and repeat only the stage responsible for any systematic error.
Key Takeaways
Practice complete outcomes, not loose phrase lists: obtain the item, communicate the symptom, settle the plan, and make the story coherent. Vary one condition after every memorized dialogue.
